Dean has been involved with horses for his entire life. He rode his first race at 12 and went on to win his first professional race at 15 years old. He has a varied and successful racing background, with 50 wins on the flat and about 55 over jumps. His success led him to be contracted to Australia, America and England.
After a bad riding accident Dean went into partnership with his father. This partnership continued for 5 years, training race horses on the flat and over jumps. They educated well over 100 horses per year – predominately for the racing industry. Later his father retired from racing and Dean went out on his own. Some of the recent horses Dean has trained include: Caballos, The Green Mile, Luckshan, Shan Dynasty.
Lorraine began to be involved in horses at a young age through family. Ever since she can remember she had infinity for horses. Finally at the age of 14, she acquired a horse in which she was allowed to ride and joined Pony Club. Together they began competing at low level events.
Lorraine was working as a Computer Analyst Programmer, when she met Dean. Before work Lorraine began riding track work and young horses. After work she would prepare and began eventing a horse Dean had trained, “Indoubt”. Lorraine’s next horse was “Master Vain”, known to many as Rambo, he was just 5 years old when he retired from racing. Over the next couple of years Lorraine schooled him up to Novice level eventing. Her family commitments changed when their first child, Ellè was born, and 2 and a half years later, their son, Jay.
Pony Club was introduced to Ellè and Jay at a very young age – riding well known ponies, Twinkle and Sparky (still used in our Riding School today). Both children love the social side of riding, having fun and getting to know other children. They often went along to local ribbon days, camps and other events. Ellè has continued at pony club, and in 2007 she made the Cambridge Team for North Island Show Jumping Champs riding Carlos (who was then only 23 year old), and also Dressage Team.
