With a love of horses and a passion for sharing that enjoyment Lorraine oversees the team and provides all the co-ordination needed to run such a diverse and continuous business.  With horses and people always front of mind her passion is driven by wellness and continuous improvement for all.  Lorraine leads by example and provides an encouraging and positive framework for all levels engaging in pony club, lessons, events and both human and animal well-being. Lorraine has also contributed as:

Dean Phillips was a professional jockey, riding in races from the age of 12. Dean is renowned and respected for his horsemanship skills in particular training young horses. He is a New Zealand Racing Approved Employer and has trained many apprentices.

As part of our continuing commitment to provide and pass on life rewarding skills, he regularly teaches horsemanship skills – both on and off the ground. Dean often gives demonstrations with horses, including educating young horses, shoeing, and equine dentistry.

Dean can be seen at our event days helping the beginner riders in their first competition over the jumps!

He is our farrier and adviser with the health and well-being of our animals.

Ellé Phillips who is the future of Phillips Equine has spent her life with horses and has become well rounded in all aspects of Horse Management and Riding.  Competition is also a passion for Ellé with training and bringing on a team of horses part of her skill set.

Ellé continues to pursue her goals and competing in horse grand prix classes is always part of the journey. Ellé moved on from many very successful seasons on ponies, finishing 2nd in Pony of the Year on Fruitalishas, and 2nd in North Island Pony Grand Prix on Guess Once More, and numerous other wins and placings. Her journey with producing horses to compete at National level has been rewarding, but she also acknowledges that to selling horses and rebuilding teams is what she has a natural talent for and she has enjoyed seeing horses go on an be successful with new owners.

Ellé’s vision of horse training, breeding, producing quality young horses, and bringing on developing riders is starting to take the helm of Philips Equine.

Our son Jay Phillips the youngest by only two years is a keen horseman and the speed devil of the family. He has a particular fondness for riding all sizes of ponies and horses and can be often called upon to do bareback jumping demonstrations!

As an experienced rider, Jay has taken over his father’s role of riding all our “breakers” and young horses giving them sound education from the ground up. Jay is also sort after to work racehorses for many of the Cambridge trainers.
